The choice of buoy material is very important for the whole underwater operation system. Usually there are three kinds of polyurethane foam, copolymer foam and composite foam material.

Polyurethane foam is made of polyurethane foam material, and its cost can be well controlled, but its main application is below the surface of water and below the surface of rice.

The underwater foam material must be completely covered by other materials to ensure that it is completely isolated from the water, because the foam has water absorption. If it is directly contacted with seawater for a long time, the material will absorb water under the action of water pressure.

The copolymer foam crosslinked copolymer foam is a hard closed pore foam, which can withstand the static pressure of sea water without the need of complete enclosure. The foam is usually processed into lumps or flakes, but many key factors must be taken into consideration before processing and testing.

The low density foam of this material is suitable for short term application.  If used for a long time in a continuous water static pressure load environment, this material will have plastic creep, deformation and volume reduction. Composite foam composite foam is the latest generation of buoy material. The advantage of this material is that it can maintain enough strength at very low density, and has high compression strength, weight ratio, low creep and low water absorption. Thus it is possible to provide buoyancy and provide protection for the equipment in the deep sea. This kind of material is basically used in the core of the riser buoy.
